WATCH: Marcus Stoinis’ pumped-up reaction after smashing Wanindu Hasaranga for a maximum – T20 World Cup

Marcus Stoinis six

Marcus Stoinis slammed an unbeaten 59 off 18 balls laced with 6 sixes and 4 fours to guide Australia to a comprehensive win over Sri Lanka in Perth on Tuesday, October 25.

Playing a blinder of a knock in the Super 12 fixture of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, power-hitter Stoinis turned the tie on its head by hitting a quick-fire half-century. Stoinis notched up the record of fastest fifty by an Australian in T20 internationals. Stoinis surpassed his teammate David Warner by scoring a half-century in just 17 balls.

Stoinis’ fifty was also the joint second-fastest (in terms of balls faced) at the T20 World Cup. Stoinis and Stephan Myburgh of Netherlands slammed their respective half-centuries in 17 balls. India veteran Yuvraj Singh still holds the record for fastest half-century in the shortest format. He achieved the historic feat in just 12 balls against England at the 2007 T20 World Cup in Durban, South Africa.

Stonis’ gigantic six off Wanindu Hasaranga

In the 15th over of the second innings, Stoinis smashed the ball right up into the stands with an ‘absolute monster’ of a hit. Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga faced the heat of Stoinis’ willow in that over and conceded 19 runs.

After dispatching the ball into the stands, the Aussie all-rounder celebrated in ‘Hulk’ style. He didn’t shy away from flexing his biceps once he got to his fifty.

Here’s the video:

Hasaranga gave away as many as 53 runs in his three overs, which deflated all the pressure created by other Sri Lankan bowlers. At one stage, it seemed like the game was in balance. First, Glenn Maxwell and then Stoinis took Hasaranga apart, and his ordinary bowling proved to be the final nail in the Lankan coffin.
