WATCH: David Wiese breaks down in tears after Namibia fails to qualify for the Super 12s – T20 World Cup
Namibia faced a dramatic seven-run defeat against United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their last match of Round 1 at the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, tumbling to 69-7 inside 13 overs while chasing 149 for victory.
David Wiese (55 off 36) and Ruben Trumpelmann (25 not out off 24) stitched an eighth-wicket stand of 70 from 44 balls, but couldn’t take their side over the finish line.
With the defeat, Namibia’s hopes of reaching the Super 12s for the second straight year were dashed, UAE celebrated their maiden victory at a T20 World Cup, while Netherlands progressed into the main stage along with Sri Lanka.
After the match, Wiese was seen dejected on the field as he broke down after not being able to take his team through.
Fans on social media consoled the all-rounder and applauded his lion-hearted effort.

Heart goes out to Namibia. They were so close. The Wiese hit would have been a six on most grounds. To experience such a high and such a low within 5 days must be difficult.

Namibia finished their campaign at the third spot in Group A with two points and a net run rate of +0.730, while UAE ended at the bottom-most spot in the four-team table.
