David Warner opens up on leading the Aussies after Cricket Australia gives a hint of overturning his captaincy ban
Cricket Australia (CA) is looking to make a change in its code of conduct which could pave the way for David Warner to hold a leadership position. Regarding the same, the explosive batter has shared his views, stating that he is a leader in the team whether he gets the captaincy or not.
Notably, Warner was handed a lifetime captaincy ban after the 2018 ball-tampering scandal. However, more than four years after the incident, the Aussie governing body is ready to insert a special clause to allow the New South Wales cricketer to hold a leadership position.
When quizzed about the same, Warner opined that he is happy to accept any decision by the board and ready to do whatever it takes to help the team.
“It’s another cliche, it is what it is. It is what it is. At the end of the day, I’ve just got to accept what decision is handed down. There is talk that I might be able to have a chat to the integrity unit. If that’s possible, I’m happy to sit down with them and chew the fat a little bit and see where we’re at. If it does get overturned, then we have to go from there,” said Warner in a chat with Fox Cricket on Friday night.
“For me, I’m a leader in this team, no matter what. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got a c or a vc next to your name. You’ve got to put your best foot forward and lead by example. If it (ODI captaincy) ever presented itself, it would be a privilege. For me, it’s about focusing on the next game and what I have to do for the team. At this point in time, that’s what I have to do,” he added.
