T20 World Cup: Virat Kohli’s privacy breached; strangers record a video in his hotel room at Perth

Team India’s star batter Virat Kohli has reacted angrily to strangers breaching his hotel privacy in Perth and recording a video of his room while he was playing the T20 World Cup 2022 Super-12 game against South Africa on Sunday evening.

The 33-year-old has uploaded a 30-second clip of few unidentified people taking a tour of his hotel room.

“I understand that fans get very happy and excited seeing their favourite players and get excited to meet them and I’ve always appreciated that. But this video here is appalling and it’s made me feel very paranoid about my privacy,” Kohli wrote.

“If I cannot have privacy in my own hotel room, then where can I really expect any personal space at all? I’m NOT okay with this kind of fanaticism and absolute invasion of privacy. Please respect people’s privacy and not treat them as a commodity for entertainment,” he added.

Fans and cricketers took to Instagram to slam the offenders and posted on Virat’s wall in the comments section to express their disgust. Australian opener David Warner took to Instagram and questioned the security standards of the luxurious hotel in the wake of the incident. “This is ridiculous, totally unacceptable. Was this @crownperth,” wrote Warner.

“Whosoever is responsible for this blunder should be shameful; a man who is dedicated towards the country and giving his maximum amount of time amongst the crowd should at least have some peaceful time in his own hotel room. This type of fanaticism is sick and should not be appreciated anywhere,” commented a fan.

On the work front, Kohli had a forgetful day on the field, scoring just 12 runs in India’s third Super-12 match at the T20 World Cup. South Africa defeated India by five wickets and moved to the top of the points table in Group 2.
