Sourav Ganguly commends MS Dhoni’s outstanding captaincy for CSK in IPL 2023

Former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly heaped praise on MS Dhoni the latter’s leadership and Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) impressive turnaround in the 2023 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). After a disappointing performance in the previous year, where CSK finished ninth in the 10-team competition, Dhoni’s team showcased their resilience and determination in the 2023 season.

In a remarkable display of their resurgence, CSK became the first team to secure a spot in the IPL final. They achieved this by defeating the defending champions, Gujarat Titans, by 15 runs in Qualifier 1. The victory highlighted CSK’s ability to bounce back from a challenging season and reaffirmed their status as a formidable team under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

Notably, in the clash against GT, Ruturaj Gaikwad‘s composed innings of 60, and Devon Conway‘s 40 guided the Super Kings to a competitive total of 172/7. In response, GT were packed at 157, courtesy of Dhoni’s remarkable leadership as he exhibited astute bowling decisions and strategic field placements, helping CSK bag a 15-run winh.

Ganguly praised the commendable achievement of Dhoni and CSK for making it to their 10th final out of 14 seasons in the cash-rich league. He specifically highlighted MSD’s instrumental role in leading CSK’s impressive comeback in the ongoing edition.

“Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni have been fantastic. They have shown how to win big matches. Dhoni has been remarkable in his captaincy. He has shown how to win big matches,” said Ganguly as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Moreover, the former BCCI President also expressed his excitement about the emergence of several fascinating new players in this IPL season, such as Rinku Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jitesh Sharma and Dhruv Jurel.

“Rinku Singh has played well, Dhruv Jurel has played well and Yashasvi Jaiswal also did well. Jitesh ( Sharma) played well for Punjab Kings. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma have played well. The IPL is a huge Tournament and they have done exceptionally well,” added Ganguly.
