Updated World Test Championship 2021-23 points table after New Zealand vs South Africa 2nd Test
The ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 witnessed few changes after the recently concluded New Zealand versus South Africa second Test.
The Proteas on Tuesday defeated New Zealand by 198 runs in the second Test at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch to level the two-match series 1-1. Notably, the visitors had suffered a humiliating defeat by an innings and 276 runs in the opening Test at the same venue.
Batting first, South Africa posted 364 on the board in their first innings, thanks to Sarel Erwee, who smashed a scintillating century. In reply, the Black Caps got bundled out for 293. Pacer Kagiso Rabada was absolutely brilliant with the ball for South Africa, taking a five-wicket haul.
When it comes to second innings, South Africa declared at 354/9, setting up an enormous target of 426 for New Zealand. Kyle Verreynne shined with the willow for the tourists, smashing an unbeaten 136 off 187 deliveries
In their massive chase, New Zealand were completely outplayed, getting all out for 227. Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Keshav Maharaj bagged three wickets each for the Proteas. After the memorable victory, South Africa acquired the 4th spot in the WTC points table.
On the other hand, New Zealand reached the 6th spot in the WTC table headed by Sri Lanka, with Australia placed at the 2nd spot.
Pakistan are comfortably placed at the 3rd spot, while India are at the 5th position in the table. Similarly, Bangladesh are stationed at 7th place, and the West Indies are at the 8th spot. The last place in the WTC points table is occupied by England.
