Twitter reactions: Taskin Ahmed’s 5-fer helps Bangladesh win historic series in South Africa

Bangladesh beat South Africa in 3rd ODI to win the series

Bangladesh achieved a historic feat after defeating South Africa in the third ODI to script their maiden ODI series win in the rainbow nation on Wednesday. The Tamim Iqbal-led side hammered the Proteas by nine wickets while chasing a paltry 155-run target in the third and final ODI of the three-match series at the SuperSport Park Centurion.

Bangladesh had last week won their first-ever international match in South Africa as they defended a 317-run total in the first ODI. The tourists then lost the second match in Johannesburg, but Bangladesh bounced back again and handed South Africa a defeat in the final ODI.

The visitors formed a 127-run opening stand between captain Tamim and Litton Das to power through to the target. Keshav Maharaj picked up the only wicket for the hosts by removing Das 2 short of his fifty. Captain Tamim played an unbeaten knock of 87 from just 82 balls to take Bangladesh over the finish line in just 26.3 overs.

Earlier, Bangladesh rode on a superb spell of fast-bowling from Taskin Ahmed, who picked up his 2nd five-wicket haul in ODIs. The right-armer bagged a fifer while conceding 35 runs only in nine overs. Apart from Taskin, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan also bagged a couple of scalps for 24 runs in nine overs.

“I am very proud, especially with a Bangladesh fast bowler getting Player of the Match and Player of the series. I want to thank all the coaches who have worked with the fast bowlers, they have done a fantastic job,” said Tamim after the match.

“This is our one of the biggest achievements, it’s a massive win. We can win series overseas, this win will give us that confidence moving forward. We take a lot of pride in ODI cricket, we believe we are a good side. This is one forward where we have been doing well in the last 5-6 years,” he added.
