Twitter reactions: Kagiso Rabada, Quinton de Kock propel South Africa to series levelling win over Bangladesh
South Africa defeated Bangladesh in the second ODI by seven wickets and levelled the ongoing three-match series 1-1 at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Kagiso Rabada‘s brilliant five-wicket haul followed by Quinton de Kock‘s sensational half-century inspired the hosts to bounce back after losing the series opener in Centurion. Batting first, the tourists dealt early blows courtesy of Rabada’s threatening bowling display.
The right-armer destroyed Bangladesh’s top-order, reducing them to 94/6 in 27.1 overs. Rabada removed the likes of Liton Das (15), Shakib Al Hasan (0) and Yasir Ali (2) to pick his first three wickets. However, the visitors did comeback, thanks to Afif Hossain and Mehidy Hasan‘s gritty partnership, where Hossain, in particular, played a major role in saving Bangladesh from trouble.
Hossain and Hasan went on to form a crucial 86-run stand for the seventh wicket before Rabada yet again came for South Africa’s rescue and dismissed set-batter Hossian for a well-made 72. In the same over, the 26-year-old sent back Hasan as well to complete his fifer, helping Proteas to restrict Bangladesh at 194/9 in 50 overs.
In response, the home team chased down the target in 37.2 overs, thanks to De Kock and Kyle Verreynne, who smashed their respective fifties to take South Africa over the finish line.
The wicketkeeper-batter scored 62 off 41 deliveries, with the help of 11 boundaries, including a couple of sixes. On the other hand, Verreynne remained unbeaten on 58 off 77 balls.
“I thought we pitched the ball in challenging areas trying to make the batters play as much as possible and tried to bring the variable bounce in our favour. There are different game plans for each segments of the innings, the ball was gripping so our seamers used the change of pace to get grip and bounce. Not all batters are same, so there was no point pitching the ball in the same areas. There are a lot of things to take into account, but you need to keep things simple,” said Rabada after the match.
Here is how Twitter reacted:
