Suresh Raina set to return to the IPL, but in a new role

It is fair to say that former India international Suresh Raina is one of the most decorated players in the history of IPL. The left-handed batter has some phenomenal numbers to his name.

Raina, popularly known as Mr. IPL among the fans, was not at his best in the previous edition of the tournament, but is still the fourth highest run-getter in the IPL history. He has score 5529 runs at an average of 33.1, with the help of two hundreds and 38 half-centuries. Only Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are above him in the elite list.

In a shock to many, Raina went unsold at the 2022 IPL auction. His ex-franchise, Chennai Super Kings, also didn’t show any interest to bid for him.

With fans already missing their favourite batter, it has been learned that Raina will be making his debut in a new role at the 15th season of IPL T20. Raina will be still participating in the cash rich league, but not as a player.

Star Sports, the official broadcasters of IPL, have roped in Raina for their Hindi commentary team. He will be seen in action in the commentary box alongside former India head coach Ravi Shastri, who will be making a comeback following his 7-year coaching stint with Team India.

It will be the first time that Shastri will be seen doing commentary in the Hindi language. According to reports, he is performing rehearsals and taking Hindi language classes to prepare for the role.
