Ellyse Perry on Jhulan Goswami

Senior Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami is undoubtedly one of the biggest legends in women’s cricket. Jhulan added another feather to her illustrious cap as she completed the landmark of playing 200 ODI games for Team India on Saturday.

The ‘Chakda Express’ completed the incredible feat in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup game against Australia. However, the lanky fast bowler failed to pick a wicket in her 9.3 overs, where India eventually lost the game. Last week, Jhulan became the first bowler in women’s cricket to take 250 ODI wickets in the last game against England.

In the meantime, Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has congratulated Jhulan on completing the landmark of 200 ODI matches.

Perry termed Jhulan as a truly wonderful player and person, calling herself lucky to play against the veteran Indian speedster.

“An incredible achievement from a truly wonderful player and person. Congratulations, Jhulan Goswami, we’ve been very lucky to play against you,” Perry wrote on Twitter.

Overall, Jhulan is the second player in the history of women’s cricket to play 200 matches, after her teammate and Indian captain Mithali Raj, who has featured in 230 games till now. In ODIs, Jhulan has so far taken 250 wickets at an average of 22.08, with 6/31 being her best figure.

Notably, ahead of the India versus Australia match, Perry had heaped praises on Jhulan, terming her a talisman for the Indian team.

“I think not just myself, but our entire team has tremendous respect for Jhulan. You know what she’s done for the game, not just for the Indian team. But you know, the whole of women’s cricket globally is just unbelievable. I certainly admire her longevity as well, and just how successful she’s been over such a long period of time. You know, she’s such a talisman for the Indian team. She’s an absolute bedrock of that new ball. And it’s been really, really tricky to get away,” Perry had said as quoted by Scroll.
