WATCH: Steve Smith loses cool at Roving ‘Buggy Cam’ on Day 1 of Pakistan vs Australia 3rd Test

Steve Smith gets annoyed by roving cam

There is no doubt that the Australian cricket star Steve Smith is known for his unusualness in life. From his out of the ordinary batting stance to his midnight practice sessions, Smith is a completely different character both on and off the field.

Another such glimpse was captured by one and all when Smith came out to bat on Day 1 of the ongoing third and final Test against Pakistan at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The Aussie No.4 came in the middle after the early dismissals of opener David Warner and batting sensation Marnus Labuschagne.

The New South Wales batter showed his intentions from the word go as he looked in his zone and played some glorious cover drives. In fact, an incident during the 11th over gave evidence about how focused Smith was that he was angered over using the camera rover on the sidelines.

The rover, which was stationed at deep mid-wicket, began to move as the ball was being delivered. Normally it doesn’t bother batters because it is far away from batters’ eyes, but Smith somehow picked it up. The Aussie vice-captain got annoyed as he gestured towards the person controlling the rover and yelled, ‘Stop moving’.

The unusual moment even left the commentators in splits as they couldn’t believe that Smith picked up a moving camera which was about 100 yards away at the deep mid-wicket position. Former England cricketer Rob Key was heard saying: “How he’s seen that, I don’t know. I mean, it’s on the boundary at deep mid-wicket, and he’s not happy … it’s a good 100 yards away, I’d say. Extraordinary.”

Urooj Mumtaz was also shocked as he claimed he has never seen anything like that before. “I have never seen that before. One thing is for sure, Steve Smith has the best peripheral vision on the planet,” said Urooj.

Former Australia opener Simon Katich felt the moment would be playing on repeat mode in the Australia dressing room as Smith’s teammates will be enjoying this. He said: “I reckon the rest of his teammates will get a lot of humour out of that.”
