Twitter reactions: India steamroll Pakistan in a one-sided contest at the 2022 Women’s World Cup
Team India continued their domination over Pakistan in World Cups after defeating the arch-rivals for the 11th time on Sunday in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022. The Mithali Raj and Co. thrashed Pakistan in a one-sided contest at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui to acquire the top spot in the points table.
Batting first, India lost Shafali Verma (0) early before Smriti Mandhana, and Deepti Sharma partnered for a crucial 90 runs partnership for the second wicket. However, the vital stand was broken by Nashra Sandhu when she dismissed Deepti for 40. Soon, Smriti was removed for a well-made 52 by Diana Baig.
The dismissals of Deepti and Smriti followed a collapse as India were reduced at 114/6 in 33.1 overs. Before Pakistan could further capitalise, Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar stood up and formed a splendid partnership of 122 runs for the seventh wicket.
Both players smashed their respective half-centuries to shift the momentum back. Vastrakar scored 67 off 59 deliveries while Rana stayed unbeaten on 53 as India posted 244/7 in their allotted 50 overs.
In reply, Pakistan never looked like they were in the game as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The Bismah Maroof-led side got bundled out for just 137 to lose the match by a massive margin of 107 runs.
Rajeshwari Gayakwad led the Indian bowling with a scintillating four-wicket haul for 31 in her quota of 10 overs. Apart from Gayakwad, Jhulan Goswami (2/26) and Rana (2/27) bagged a couple of wickets each.
