Thai police interrogates German woman who entered ambulance carrying Shane Warne’s body
A shocking footage has been captured by several media houses showing a German woman entering the ambulance carrying Shane Warne’s body. Thailand police have also admitted that it was a security breach.
The woman, identified as Barbara, can be seen carrying a bunch of flowers when she entered the ambulance and stayed with Warne’s corpse for around 40 seconds.
On Monday, Warne’s body was taken to the Koh Samui Hospital for autopsy by his friends and the Australian ambassador to Thailand, Allan McKinnon. But they were not with the van when it was parked on the car ferry, according to reports.
The footage was shown to the Australian officials and Warne’s friends, but none of them appeared to know the German woman. Warne’s management have also informed his family members about the incident and they are furious about the breach.
After the incident, Thai police tracked down the woman and questioned her. But she was not charged.
Lt Gen Surachate Hakparn, an adviser of the Royal Thai Police, said: “We have to accept that it was [a mistake] for police to miss her and we investigated.”
“We found that she did not mean harm. She just wanted to pay her last respects.”
Barbara, a Koh Samui resident, also apologised when visited the police station on Monday. “I’m a big fan of him [Warne]. It’s very sad that we lost him,” she told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.
“I took the flowers to pay condolences. I am sorry about yesterday, but I do not mean it as a negative act. I am a big fan, he’s a great player.”
