Shane Warne’s dies: Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara post heartfelt note for Australian spin legend

Former Australian cricketer Shane Warne, on Friday, died due to a suspected heart attack aged 52. The legendary spinner was at a villa in Thailand when the doctors tried to revive him, unsuccessfully. His untimely demise was a tough pill to swallow for his friends and members of the cricketing fraternity who had idolised the spin wizard for the art that he had mastered.

Batting maestro – Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara – posted a heartfelt notes for Warne after news emerged of the latter’s death. Both Tendulkar and Lara had several memorable battles with Warne on the field and have expressed respect for each other’s achievements on number of occasions.

“Shocked, stunned & miserable… Will miss you Warnie. There was never a dull moment with you around, on or off the field. Will always treasure our on field duels & off field banter. You always had a special place for India & Indians had a special place for you. Gone too young!” tweeted Tendulkar.

West Indies cricketing legend Lara wrote: “And speechless at the moment. I literally don’t know how to sum up this situation. My friend is gone!! We have lost one of the Greatest Sportsmen of all time!! My condolences goes out to his family. RIP Warnie!! You will be missed.”

In his 15-year long international career, Warne picked up 708 wickets in 145 Test matches and 293 wickets in 194 ODIs. He took 195 wickets in Ashes outings alone, and was a victor in seven series. His final Test series was the home Ashes in 2006-07, where Australia thrashed England 5-0, in which Warne claimed his 700th wicket.
