IPL 2022: Yash Dhull’s father explains why Delhi Capitals bought his son at the mega auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is considered as a grand stage for youngsters to shoot up their careers. In the presence of the world’s top-most cricketers and high-profile coaches, the young guns get valuable opportunities to learn all the tips and tricks to improve their skills and take their game to the next level.

Like every season’s auction, the IPL 2022 bidding process also witnessed various franchises going after the young and uncapped cricketers. One such star was India’s Under 19 skipper Yash Dhull, who was roped in by Delhi Capitals (DC) for INR 50 Lakh in the IPL 2022 mega-auction.

Ahead of the 2022 season, which is set to begin on March 26, Yash’s father has opened up on his son being bought by the DC. Yash’s father, Vijay Dhull admitted that when a player registers for the IPL auction, he does not know which team will pick him. However, Mr Dhull also mentioned that his son’s association with Delhi Capitals’ academy for eight years gave him impressions that DC would most likely pick Yash.

“When you register for the auctions and as a player when you are going under the hammer, it is not your choice and beyond your control as to which side would pick you. But with Yash already being associated with Delhi Capitals Academy at Bal Bhavan, Dwarka for a long time now, where he had practised for the last seven-eight years, we had already expected that Delhi Capitals would most likely pick him,” said Mr Dhull in a conversation with India TV.

Notably, Yash had an impressive campaign in the Under-19 World Cup 2022, where he led Team India to their title victory before capturing everyone’s attention with his scintillating First-Class debut. In his maiden game for Delhi against Tamil Nadu in the Elite Group H of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022, Yash smashed centuries in both innings.

Mr Dhull reckoned that if young cricketers get to represent their state-based IPL franchise, they tend to stay more comfortable, and that’s one of the reasons why Yash was also happy after DC picked in the auctions.

“Also, I feel that if the local boys get to play and represent their state-based franchise in the IPL, it motivates them immensely. As rookies, they are in a comparatively comfortable homely fabric. Even if you see the other young boys, they are taken by their local teams only. Yash was happy about being picked by DC,” Mr Dhull added.
