CSA announces 16-member South Africa squad for home ODI series against Bangladesh
Cricket South Africa (CSA), on Tuesday, have named a full-strength men’s squad for the upcoming home ODI series against Bangladesh.
The three-match series will finish on March 23, just three days before the start of the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This means few South African players could miss some of their franchises’ early matches.
The Proteas squad includes eight IPL bound players in the form of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, Dwaine Pretorius and Marco Jansen.
A three-day quarantine is mandatory for all franchises before they enter the IPL bubble, but this rule will be relaxed if players are arriving from another bubble. However, the South Africa-Bangladesh series shall be played within a ‘managed environment’ and how it will affect the quarantine requirement in IPL is still unclear.
Notably, South Africa have recently defeated India 3-0 at home in the ODI battle, and the selectors have retained their faith in the winning combination. Temba Bavuma will continue to lead a 16-man ODI squad against Bangladesh. However, speedster Sisanda Magala misses out due to fitness concerns, as well as Anrich Nortje, who continues to recover from his hip injury.
The first and third ODI will take place at SuperSport Park in Centurion on March 18 and 23, while the second ODI will be hosted by The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on March 20.
Here is South Africa Squad for Bangladesh ODIs:
Temba Bavuma (captain), Keshav Maharaj (vice-captain), Quinton de Kock (wicketkeeper), Zubayr Hamza, Marco Jansen, Janneman Malan, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne
