WI vs IND 2023: Ishan Kishan’s fierce stroke results in Hardik Pandya’s bizarre run-out during the first ODI

Hardik Pandya's bizarre run-out

The first ODI of the three-match series between West Indies and India saw the Men in Blue registering a dominating win over the hosts in a one-sided affair at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. India emerged victorious in the contest by five wickets and took a 1-0 lead.

Asked to bat first, the Men in Maroon struggled to find a stable footing against the disciplined Indian bowling attack and the Caribbean side was eventually bundled out for a paltry total of 114 runs in 23 overs. Shai Hope top scored for his team with an impressive 43 off 45 balls, supported by Alick Athanaze (22).

On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout performer for India. Kuldeep wreaked havoc with the ball, claiming an impressive four wickets while conceding just six runs in his three overs. Ravindra Jadeja also made a significant impact, bagging three scalps.

Chasing the target of 115 runs, India faced a few early setbacks but ultimately managed to reach the target in 22.5 overs with five wickets to spare. Ishan Kishan was the star of the Indian batting lineup, scoring a brisk 52 off 46 balls. Although India was successful in chasing the set target with ease, there also took place a peculiar incident during the visitor’s innings when a fierce stroke from Ishan led to Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s dismissal at the non-striker’s end.

Hardik Pandya’s bizarre and unfortunate run-out:

It all happened on the first ball of the 14th over when Yannic Cariah delivered a fuller delivery to Kishan, and the left-handed batter smacked it back towards the Windies bowler. Despite Cariah being unsuccessful in getting hold of the ball, the Caribbean side managed bag a wicket as the white-leather deflected onto the non-stiker’s stumps through Cariah’s hand, where Pandya was found short of the crease with his bat in the air.
