Twitter reactions: India takes series 1-0 after rain forces a draw in the second Test – WI vs IND, 2023
The second Test match between West Indies and India turned out to be a compelling contest that had everything from brilliant batting performances to fiery bowling spells. However, the rain gods had different plans, as persistent showers on the final and fifth day washed away any hopes of a decisive result. The match eventually ended in a draw, leaving both teams with mixed feelings.
Asked to bat first in the match, India’s batting duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli displayed masterful strokeplay and powered India to a mammoth total in their first innings. Rohit looked in fine touch as he scored a classy 80 runs off 143 deliveries. Meanwhile, Kohli built his innings patiently and displayed his exceptional ability to handle the opposition’s bowlers with ease. Kohli hammered a brilliant 121 runs off 266 balls.
On the other hand, the West Indian paceman Kemar Roach and the left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican were successful in putting the brakes on the Indian scoring. Roach picked up three crucial wickets for 104 runs, while Warrican claimed three wickets for 89 runs. Despite their efforts, India posted a competitive total of 438 runs before getting bowled out in 128 overs.
In response, the West Indies batting unit struggled against the disciplined Indian bowling attack. Kraigg Brathwaite was the standout performer for the hosts, displaying great patience and determination as he compiled a gritty 75 runs off 235 deliveries. Alick Athanaze offered some resistance, contributing 37 runs, but it was Mohammed Siraj‘s sensational bowling spell that stole the limelight. The Indian pacer was the wrecker-in-chief, as he exploited the conditions brilliantly to claim an impressive fifer and helped India restrict the Caribbean side to a total of 255 runs.
With a significant lead in hand, India came out to bat in their second innings with positive intent. Rohit and Ishan Kishan provided a thrilling start, scoring quickfire 57 and 52 runs, respectively. India declared their second innings at 181/2 in just 24 overs, setting West Indies a target of 365 runs to win the match on the final day.
Although India looked very much in the game, the rain played spoilsport. The fifth and final day of the Test match saw persistent showers that rendered any play impossible. The wet outfield and soggy conditions led to the inevitable decision of calling off the match as a draw.
With the draw, India took away the two-match Test series (1-0). Siraj was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his exceptional bowling performance.

Well then, rain plays spoilsport in Trinidad as well, with Day 5 of the West Indies vs India Test washed out, resulting in a stalemate.
Points dropped for India, in what is a draw as good as a win for the home team.

Didn't see any WI cricketer or fan whine about the rain, England should learn a thing or two. #WIvIND #Ashes
