MLC 2023: Tim David, bowlers shine in MI New York’s thumping win over Los Angeles Knight Riders

Tim David, MI New York

In a one-sided encounter, MI New York (MINY) emerged victorious by a massive margin of 105 runs against Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) in the 6th match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 tournament held at Grand Prairie Stadium on Sunday night.

After winning the toss, MI New York elected to bat first and posted a total of 155 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Tim David played a blistering knock of 48 runs off just 21 deliveries, including 4 fours and 4 sixes. Nicholas Pooran too scored a patient 38 off 37 balls. The bowlers from the Knight Riders side put up a commendable performance, with Ali Khan and Corne Dry both picking up two wickets each.

Chasing a target of 156 runs, LAKR struggled right from the start and were bowled out for a paltry score of 50 in just 13.5 overs. Unmukt Chand was the only batsman who showed some resistance with 26 runs, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to contribute significantly. The bowlers from MI New York were exceptional, with Nosthush Kenjige, Trent Boult, Kagiso Rabada, Ehsan Adil and Kieron Pollard all picking up two wickets each.

MINY’s dominant performance with both bat and ball led them to a comprehensive victory. David was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding contribution with the bat in his team’s success.

With this win, MINY opened their account in the points table, while LAKR will be looking to regroup and bounce back in the remaining tournament.

“I definitely enjoyed the second innings. The boys put up a fantastic bowling performance and the win helps us improve our NRR,” David said in the post-match presentation.

“My job is to finish the innings off. It is nice to get a few balls in the middle. We felt we left a few runs out there but it was a fantastic bowling performance, so we will take the two points,” he added.
