IPL 2023 [WATCH]: Ricky Ponting’s animated exchange with Suryakumar Yadav after MI batter attains golden duck against DC

Ricky Ponting chats with Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav has experienced both the highs and lows of cricket. Not so long ago, he was named the ICC T20 cricketer of the year in 2022 and had impressive achievements in international cricket in a short span of time. The right-handed batter had a few T20I centuries to his name and became the leading run-scorer in the format.

But as they say in cricket, it is a great leveller as time changes quickly. This is precisely what has happened to Surya, who has been struggling to score runs for the past few innings. His bad patch with the willow continued when he came to bat for Mumbai Indians (MI) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 clash against Delhi Capitals (MI) on Tuesday as he was dismissed for a golden duck.

Notably, when the Pune-born cricketer endured a hat-trick of golden ducks against Australia last month, many fans reckoned that Surya would make a comeback in the IPL 2023. However, three matches into the tournament for Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar has yet to find his rhythm. He managed to score 15 and 1 against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings, respectively, and suffered yet another first-ball duck against DC.

After the game between MI and DC, which ended on a thrilling note where Mumbai managed to register a 6-wicket win, DC head coach Ricky Ponting was spotted talking to Surya. From the visuals, it appeared the Australian great was passing his golden advice and helping the Indian batting sensation during his tough time.

Here is the video:

Piyush Chawla, who played a significant role in MI’s victory by taking three wickets, reckoned that Suryakumar would recover his form soon. He expressed his confidence in SKY and suggested that it is only a matter of time before he regains his lost mojo.

“Surya’s form was never a concern. It takes only 10 balls to make a comeback in this format, you hit four fours, and you are back in form. He got out on the first ball, but that happens, the situation was such. That could have been a four or a six, too, so this happens. The kind of batter Surya is, he is high on confidence, and it’s only a matter of 10 balls; he’ll be back to his form,” said Chawla in the post-match presser.
