Deandra Dottin joins Thunder for the upcoming Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy

Former West Indies cricketer Deandra Dottin has returned to the Thunder to take part in the upcoming Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 2023 in England.

Dottin will join the Thunder for the second year in a row, and unlike last time, the Caribbean all-rounder will be available for the region’s full 2023 domestic campaign. Last summer, she played six matches for the Thunder, and it was during this period that she announced her retirement from international cricket.

Dottin has arrived in Manchester and is expected to play Thunder’s opening match of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy against South East Stars at Emirates Old Trafford on Saturday.

Known as the ‘World Boss,’ Dottin is regarded as one of the most dominating players in international cricket. She was the first women cricketer to smash a century in the shortest format. She played 270 matches across both formats for the Windies, scoring 6,424 runs, including five hundreds and 34 half-centuries. The all-rounder also showcased her versatility by taking 134 wickets for West Indies.

“Firstly, we are thrilled to be able to welcome Deandra back to Emirates Old Trafford and to have her here with us and available for the entire regional domestic season is a real advantage. It was brilliant to have somebody with Deandra’s experience and skill around our squad last summer, albeit for only in two brief spells, so we are really looking forward to having her around for much longer, which will hopefully lead to lots of productive performances out on the pitch,” said Regional Director of Women’s Cricket for the North West, David Thorley as quoted by Lancashire Cricket.

For the unversed, Thunder is a regional cricket team representing three Counties – Lancashire, Cheshire, and Cumbria. The team was established as part of the ECB’s regional hub structure and debuted in the 2020 edition of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
