Bangladesh women’s squad for upcoming Sri Lanka tour announced

Bangladesh have revealed their 16-player squad for their white-ball tour to Sri Lanka, set to take place in April and May. The team selectors have made the decision to rest senior players like Salma Khatun and Rumana Ahmed for the tour. Workload management was cited as the key factor behind their exclusion from the tour.

In addition to Salma and Rumana, Bangladesh will also be without the services of Marufa Akter, who is set to appear in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam later this month.

To fill the gaps in the squad, the selectors have included Sanjida Akther Maghla, Fariha Islam Trishna, Rabeya and Sultana Khatun.

Sultana, who is yet to make her international debut for Bangladesh, is a particularly intriguing inclusion in the squad.

The team will be captained by Nigar Sultana Joty, who has been a key figure for Bangladesh in recent years. The squad will leave for Sri Lanka on April 25, and the tour will commence with a three-match ODI series, played between April 29 and May 4 at the P Sara Oval in Colombo. These matches are part of the ICC Women’s Championship, adding extra significance to the series.

Following the ODI series, Bangladesh will play three T20Is on May 9, May 11, and May 12 at the SSC Ground in Colombo.
