IPL 2023: Netizens unhappy with a kid’s placard asking Virat Kohli to take his daughter Vamika on a date

Virat Kohli, a kid with a placard

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) played a thrilling match at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday.

RCB faced the tough challenge of gunning down the daunting target of 227. All-rounder Glenn Maxwell and captain Faf du Plessis came up with a counterattack and took the game deep. However, the home team narrowly missed the target, as they were limited to 218/8 in 20 overs, resulting in a loss by a margin of eight runs.

During the contest, a picture that has now gained widespread attention showed a young boy in the stands asking Virat Kohli to allow him to take his daughter Vamika on a date.

The kid was seen holding a sign that read, “Hi Virat Uncle, Can I Take Vamika on a Date?!” While some found the gesture cute, many criticized the child’s parents for promoting behaviour that is deemed inappropriate.

Here is how netizens reacted:

Notably, in December 2017, Virat and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma tied the knot after being in a relationship for more than two years. The couple’s daughter was born in January 2021, and they named her Vamika. Both Virat and Anushka have been cautious about sharing photos or videos of their daughter, as the angel has been seen accompanying her parents during matches.

When it comes to Kohli, the Delhi-born has found his lost mojo in the cash-rich league. Despite getting out on a cheap score of 6 in the clash against MS Dhoni-led CSK, Kohli is amongst the leading run-scorer in the 16th season of the cash-rich league. The right-handed batter has scored 220 runs in 5 matches so far at an outstanding average of 55 and a strike rate of 147.65.
