Wasim Jaffer & others troll ‘Bazball’ as South Africa hammer England in Lord’s Test

South Africa’s fiery attack dented the much-talked-about ‘Bazball’ concept as England failed to score with the bat in both the innings, being bowled out for 165 and 149 with visitors taking a lead of 161 runs in the first essay.

With an inning and 12 runs victory, the Proteas have not just taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series but also consolidated their position on the top in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship.

Ahead of the Lord’s Test, South Africa captain Dean Elgar had interestingly dismissed the threat of ‘Bazball’ – a name given to the style of cricket England have been playing since the joining of Brendon McCullum as head coach in Tests. “I think it can go one of two ways for them and it can go south very quickly. Their own coach doesn’t even like the slogan they’ve come up with. I’d like to see them do it against our seamers,” Elgar was quoted as saying to The Guardian.

Brief Scores: England 165 (Ollie Pope 73; Kagiso Rabada 5-52, Anrich Nortje 3-63) & 149 (Alex Lees 35, Stuart Broad 35; Anrich Nortje 3-47, Kagiso Rabada 2-27) lost to South Africa 326 (Sarel Erwee 73, Marco Jansen 48; Stuart Broad 3-71, Ben Stokes 3-71) by an innings & 12 runs.
