Jemimah Rodrigues ruled out of The Hundred; replacement announced

India women star Jemimah Rodrigues will miss the remainder of the ongoing The Hundred tournament as she has been ruled out of the competition due to her fractured wrist.

Rodrigues, who was plying her trade for Northern Superchargers in the 100-ball tournament, entered the season fresh from a silver-medal-winning performance with the Indian cricket team at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The right-handed batter began the season in grand style when she belted 51 from 32 deliveries against Oval Invincibles before being dismissed for 2 against London Spirit.

Notably, Rodrigues had sustained a blow to her right wrist during India’s Commonwealth Games match against Barbados. She continued to play the multi-team event with a taped wrist and finished with 146 runs – the fifth-most in the competition.

Rodrigues will be replaced by Gaby Lewis, who is available for only two games because of Ireland’s three-match ODI series against the Netherlands.

“Northern Superchargers batter Jemimah Rodrigues has unfortunately been forced to end her season in The Hundred due to injury. Despite suffering defeat in the Superchargers’ opening match against Oval Invincibles, the India international offered a glimpse of what she is capable of by scoring 51 runs off 32 balls. Republic of Ireland international Gaby Lewis will now be stepping in for her,” read a statement on the official website of The Hundred.

Speaking of her Superchargers call-up, Lewis said: “I am excited to be returning to play in the Hundred once again, after getting a taste for the competition last year. It will be a juggle of commitments between Ireland and the Superchargers, but I am keen to ensure I can contribute to both teams as fully as I can.”
