WATCH: Pakistan captain Babar Azam removes Mehidy Hasan to claim his maiden Test wicket
On Wednesday, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh in a thrilling second Test to clean sweep the hosts in the two-match series.
During the last session on Day 5, umpires decided to continue the proceedings despite the fading light but informed Pakistan that they couldn’t use their pacers. Since the visitors had only one option, i.e. to use spinners, that’s when Pakistan captain Babar Azam did the unthinkable, which shifted the game in favour of his side.
Babar decided to bring himself on and broke the important 51-runs partnership between Mehidy Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan by removing the former.
The Pakistan skipper trapped Mehidy in front of the stumps, but the on-field umpire ruled it not out. Then, the tourists went upstairs, and it showed the three red. The umpire had to reverse his decision to give Babar the first wicket of his glorious Test career.
After Mehidy’s dismissal, Bangladesh lost three more wickets, including Shakib, who scored a fighting 63, as Pakistan registered victory by an innings and 8 runs to whitewash the home team.

Earlier, after declaring their first innings at 300/4, Pakistan displayed high-quality bowling to pack Bangladesh for a mere 87 in their first innings. Spinner Sajid Khan was the pick of the bowlers for the tourists, taking a brilliant eight-wicket haul.
The visiting side enforced a follow-on, and Bangladesh could only manage to reach 205, to lose the game by an innings and eight runs. Sajid again shined with the ball, picking up four wickets in the second innings.
“I felt that I needed to bowl at that stage and really happy I got that wicket (Mehidy). Our batsmen and especially openers gave us a good start, and our mindset was just to dominate despite the bad weather, and Sajid’s spell gave us momentum and confidence to win this game. Credit to groundstaff, they have done a really great job with all the rain around in the last few days. This series win gives us a lot of confidence and some crucial WTC points,” said Babar after the match.
