Twitter reactions: Devon Conway’s stunning ton helps New Zealand grab advantage on Day 1 of first Test

Devon Conway hits a stunning ton on Day 1 of 1st Test against Bangladesh

On the opening day of the first Test between New Zealand and Bangladesh at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, Devon Conway grabbed all the limelight, thanks to his scintillating performance with the willow.

Conway came to bat in the fourth over after the hosts lost captain Tom Latham (1) cheaply and went on to form a dominating stand with opener Will Young. The duo built a tremendous 138-runs partnership for the second wicket to power the Black Caps comeback.

The home team lost Young for 52 after meeting a run-out, but Conway continued his aggressor role and soon reached his second century in the longest format. Conway then stitched a 50-run stand with senior batter Ross Taylor (31), who is featuring in the penultimate Test of his career.

The left-handed batter looked quite settled and was approaching his second double-ton before falling to the part-time left-arm spin of Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque. Conway scored 122 off 227 deliveries, with the help of 17 boundaries, including a six.

After Conway’s dismissal, Henry Nicholls and Tom Blundell formed a 31-run stand for the fifth wicket before Ebadot Hossain cleaned up Blundell on the last ball of the day. At stumps, New Zealand reached 258/5, with Nicholls unbeaten at 32.
