WATCH: Jasprit Bumrah limps off the field after twisting his ankle on Day 3 of Centurion Test
India pacer Jasprit Bumrah suffered an ankle strain after landing awkwardly while bowling against South Africa on Day 3 of the first Test in Centurion on Tuesday.
Bumrah, in his third over of the day, twisted his right ankle on follow-through after the fifth delivery and immediately went down on the ground.
Team India physio Nitin Patel rushed to the ground and checked Bumrah for a while before taking him off the field for further treatment.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) soon issued a statement that read: ‘Jasprit Bumrah has suffered a right ankle sprain while bowling in the first innings. The medical team is monitoring him at the moment. Shreyas Iyer is on the field as his substitute’.

Earlier, Bumrah – who made his Test debut in the Rainbow Nation in 2018, gave India an early breakthrough by dismissing Dean Elgar in his first over.
South Africa bundled out the visitors for 327 in the opening session of play. Riding on KL Rahul’s 123 and valuable contributions from Mayank Agarwal (60) and Ajinkya Rahane (48), India posted a decent score at the SuperSport Park but would be disappointed with their sudden collapse.
After resuming on 272/3, India could add only 56 runs to their overnight score.
For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi took his career’s second six-wicket haul to finish with 6-71 while Kagiso Rabada claimed three wickets for 72.
