“I like Virat Kohli’s attitude, but he fights a lot”: Sourav Ganguly on Indian Test captain
Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly has heaped praises on current Test captain Virat Kohli for his attitude.
During a recent event in Gurugram, Ganguly was asked which player has the best attitude according to him. While responding to the question, the BCCI President named Kohli and said he is an admirer of the Delhi lad’s attitude.
However, Ganguly also expressed his disappointment at Kohli’s tendency of getting involved in fights with different people across the sport.
“I like Virat Kohli’s attitude, but he fights a lot,” said the BCCI President as quoted saying by The Hindustan Times.
Not to mention, Kohli recently ignited a major controversy in Indian cricket after he contradicted Ganguly’s comments, stating that he wasn’t told to continue as the T20I captain. But, days before the Indian captain’s presser ahead of the South Africa tour, Ganguly had said in an interview that he personally approached Kohli to remain at the helm in T20Is.
Notably, after his announcement on the T20I captaincy, Kohli was removed from his ODI skipper post as well. Soon, during a virtual press conference, Kohli told that his removal from ODI captaincy happened 90 minutes before the team’s selection for the South Africa tour.
“I was contacted one-and-a-half hours before the selection meeting on December 8 for the Test series. The chief selector [Chetan Sharma] discussed with me the Test team to which we both agreed, and before ending the call, I was told that the five selectors have decided that I would not be the ODI captain, to which I replied, ‘okay, fine’. And in the selection call afterwards, we chatted about it briefly. And that’s what happened. There was no communication prior to that at all,” Kohli had said.
In the same press conference, he also ended the speculations regarding a rift between him and senior batter Rohit Sharma, mentioning there is nothing between him and Rohit, which he has been explaining for the last two years.
In the Gurugram event, Ganguly was further asked how he deals with all the stress in life. To this, the Bengal cricket icon came up with a sarcastic answer. “There is no stress in life. Only wife and girlfriend give stress,” he said.
