Twitter erupts as Mayank Agarwal’s magnificent ton drive India forward on Day 1 of 2nd Test

Mayank Agarwal smashes ton in Mumbai Test

Mayank Agarwal stamped his authority over the New Zealand bowling unit with a spectacular century on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test to put India in a commanding position. Mayank’s innings came at a very crucial time when wickets were falling continuously from the other end.

The Karnataka batter hit his fourth Test hundred and ended a two-year wait for a three-figure score in the longest format. Mayank got to his hundred off 196 balls as the right-handed batter stood tall against a quality spin attack by Ajaz Patel, who dismissed Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara for ducks.

Mayank reached the landmark in the 59th over when he slammed Daryl Mitchell for a superb boundary over the extra cover region. He jumped and punched the air as the Indian players and support staff was spotted applauding Mayank for the incredible effort.

Mayank first formed a vital 80-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill, who fell six runs short of his half-century. Then, the Bangalore-lad joined hands with Shreyas Iyer to add another 80-run stand for the fourth wicket.

At stumps, India reached 221/4 with Mayank (120 no) and Wriddhiman Saha (25 no) as the duo formed an unbeaten stand of 61 runs.

For the visitors, only Patel looked good with the ball. The left-armer bowled exceptionally well on the bouncy track of Wankhede, taking all four wickets alone. Patel bowled 29 overs and picked up 4 wickets.
