Netizens react as Rohit Sharma replaces Virat Kohli as ODI captain of Team India
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday confirmed that Rohit Sharma would take over the reigns of the Indian ODI team from Virat Kohli. Rohit will begin his captaincy tenure in the 50-over format during the South Africa tour, where a three-match series takes place in January 2022.
The opening batter is now India’s white-ball captain and was also named Kohli’s deputy in Test cricket, replacing Ajinkya Rahane.
Rohit played in his first T20I series as a full-time skipper against New Zealand last month, registering a clean sweep over the Black Caps (3-0).
Meanwhile, fans have come up with mixed reactions after BCCI decided to appoint Rohit as captain in ODIs.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
Dear @BCCI – You are not god . The contribution of @imVkohli to indian cricket is immense. The way he lead the team with fire is something you should be very thankful for.
Its never too late – Thank him now for his role as the captain .

Split captaincy is never a great idea, and as it is Kohli had thrown the gauntlet. But I'm sure these two will get along and play for India well.

Virat Kohli had a ridiculous average of 72.65 with over 5,000 runs in ODIs with 21 centuries as captain in 95 games. This numbers will go down in history as the most prolific record by a captain.
