WTC 2023 Final [WATCH]: Steve Smith’s extravagant post-leave reaction leaves commentators in splits

Steve Smith's unique expressions in WTC Final

Apart from the scintillating batting, Australian superstar Steve Smith is widely known for his antics and always entertains his fans with his eccentricities at the crease. The New South Wales cricketer once again gave a glimpse of his idiosyncrasies while batting on Day 1 of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final against India at the Oval in London.

Smith grabbed the eyeballs with his unique expression while leaving one of the deliveries bowled by Indian pacer Mohammad Shami that left commentators, Matthew Hayden and Harsha Bhogle in splits. Smith decided to leave a back-of-a-length delivery from Shami, demonstrating his technique by lifting his arms and elevating his bat to avoid contact with the ball.

However, the delivery unexpectedly darted back in and bounced narrowly over and past the stumps, causing the Indian fielders to react with a mix of surprise and anticipation. Smith couldn’t stop to appreciate the quality of the delivery as he opened his mouth in astonishment. With his mouth still wide open, Smith nodded in admiration and used hand gestures to mimic the shape of the impressive delivery, further emphasizing his respect for Shami’s bowling ability.

Smith’s facial expression amused Hayden and Bhogle who were on air during that moment. Both Hayden and Bhogle couldn’t resist but to laugh at Smith’s antics.

Speaking about the opening day, Australia bounced back in grand style after losing three wickets for 76. Smith along with Travis Head completely changed the game with their unbeaten partnership of 251 runs for the fourth wicket. The former Aussie skipper remained unbeaten on 95 while Head smashed a tremendous century and was undefeated at 146 as the Australians finished Day 1 on 327/3.
