Ashes 2023 [WATCH]: Cameron Green takes a one-handed stunner to send Ben Duckett back to the pavilion

Cameron Green takes a brilliant catch at the gully region to dismiss Ben Duckett

The Day 3 of the Ashes 2023 Edgbaston Test saw England make a great comeback with the ball and bundle out Australia on 386 runs. However, the English team failed to start their second innings well and finished the rain-affected day at 28/2 in 10.3 overs.

Resuming their innings on 311/5, Australia first lost the wicket of Alex Carey (66), and then the centurion Usman Khawaja (141) departed off a great delivery from Ollie Robinson as well. Although Pat Cummins added some crucial 38 runs lower down the order, he couldn’t help the Australian side diffuse the lead completely, and they finished seven runs behind England’s first-inning total.

In reply, England’s openers failed miserably and were sent back to the pavilion in back-to-back overs. The first wicket that England lost was of Ben Duckett (19). The left-handed batter was caught at the gully courtesy of a brilliant low catch from Cameron Green on Cummin’s delivery.

It all happened in the 9th over when Cummins delivered angling away the outside-off ball to Duckett, and he ended up edging it towards the gully region where Green took a blinder by bending low towards his left and pulled off a one-handed stunner. The sensational effort by Green was followed by wild celebrations from Steve Smith, David Warner and other Australian players. Meanwhile, Duckett walked back in disbelief.

It is worth mentioning that Green also took a similar catch in World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023 to dismiss India’s opener Shubman Gill, which sparked a massive controversy. Nevertheless, his catch of Duckett was very cleanly grabbed by the Aussie player with fingers beneath the ball and earned him huge praise from cricket enthusiasts.

Coming back to the match, soon after the wicket of Duckett, Crawley fell victim to Boland on 7 runs in the very next over. The batters currently on the crease for England are Joe Root and Ollie Pope, who are yet to open their account.
