Sussex‘s Brad Currie has set the internet ablaze with an extraordinary catch that has left the cricketing fraternity in awe. The stunning display of fielding prowess occurred in a T20 Blast match, during his side fixture against Hampshire Hawks at The Hove on Friday.

It unfolded during the penultimate over of Hampshire’s chase, as they required 23 runs from 11 balls to secure a victory. In a bid to launch a powerful shot over the midwicket region, Hampshire’s Benny Howell took a swing at Tymal Mills‘ delivery. However, Currie had other plans, charging in from deep square, he soared through the air, snatching the ball in mid-flight.

The audacity and athleticism displayed by Currie left everyone stunned, including the commentators. Mark Butcher, caught up in the moment, exclaimed, “Oh, he’s done it!” Initially anticipating the ball to sail over the boundary, Butcher’s excitement turned into sheer amazement as Currie pulled off an incredible catch. “He’s… oh my goodness me. Have you ever witnessed anything like that?” Butcher questioned in disbelief.

Dinesh Karthik, the seasoned Indian wicketkeeper-batter, hailed Currie’s effort as “one of the greatest catches ever.” He couldn’t contain his awe, emphasizing the vast ground Currie covered before diving to complete the catch.

“Has to be one of the greatest catches ever. The distance he covers before diving ..phewwwww,” tweeted Karthik.

Even England’s captain, Ben Stokes, who is currently leading his team in the first Ashes Test against Australia, was taken aback by Currie’s heroics. Stokes conveyed his astonishment using a couple of mind-blown emojis, illustrating the impact of the catch on cricket enthusiasts worldwide.

Apart from taking an absolute screamer, Currie had a memorable outing with the ball as well. He bagged three wickets for 27 runs in his quota of 4 overs. For his sensational performance, the young star was named ‘Player of the Match’ as Sussex won the contest by six wickets.
