Netherlands head coach and former Australia ODI wicketkeeper Ryan Campbell is fighting for life in a London hospital after suffering a heart attack on Saturday.

The 50-year-old was at a playground with his children before collapsing.

“I have some very sad news that I need to share with you this morning and it concerns one of our favourite cricketing sons, former WA and Australian cricketer Ryan Campbell who I am certain you will remember for his swashbuckling batting, he basically invented the ramp shot, and his athletic wicket-keeping, and many would remember him for his fantastic work in the media post his cricket career,” Radio 6PR presenter Gareth Parker said while revealing the news on Tuesday morning.

“This news is a real shock to his family and friends … many of those family and friends Ryan Campbell caught up with just last week when he was here in Perth,” he added.

Campbell was appointed Dutch coach in January 2017.

As a player, he had also represented Hong Kong. The Perth-born featured for Hong Kong during the 2016 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, making him the oldest player to debut at 44 years and 30 days.
