IPL 2022 [WATCH]: Muttiah Muralitharan loses his cool after Marco Jansen’s expensive final over

Muttiah Muralitharan loses his cool

The 40th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 turned out to be a thriller where Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Chasing 196, the contest went down to the wire, where GT needed 22 runs off the final over bowled by Marco Jansen. The left-armer was welcomed with a huge six by Rahul Tewatia off his first ball. Jansen came back well to give only a single on the second delivery.

However, what followed next was complete carnage as Rashid Khan managed to hit three sixes in the next four deliveries to seal an exhilarating victory for his team. As the ball went sailing over the ropes, the camera panned towards the SRH dugout, where Muttiah Muralitharan was seen venting out his frustration.

The Sri Lanka legend was caught shouting in anger as Jansen missed his line and length against Rashid. A video of Murali’s reaction went viral on social media, who was fuming in annoyance and disbelief.

Here is the video:

In the match, SRH posted 195/6 on the board courtesy of half-centuries by Abhishek Sharma (65 runs off 42 balls) and Aiden Markram (56 runs off 40 balls). Shashank Singh played a cameo 6-ball 25 runs.

In response, Wriddhiman Saha provided a great start to GT, scoring 68 runs off 38 balls before Tewatia (40 runs off 21 balls) and Rashid (31 runs off 11 balls) took the matter into their hands, adding 59 runs for the sixth wicket in just four overs to seal the deal for their team.

“We’re quite practical, we’ve spoken about winning these situations, and there is a lot of self-belief in the camp. It’s important to keep the calm in the dugout, a lot of credit goes to the support staff for how they’ve been handling the players,” said GT skipper Hardik Pandya after the match.
