IPL auctioneer Hugh Edmeades thankfully OK after sudden collapse during live bidding

IPL auctioneer Hugh Edmeades

In a scary incident, IPL auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed midway during the IPL 2022 auction taking place in Bengaluru.

The incident happened when the 63-year-old auctioneer was going through a long bidding war between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) over Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. The bidding process was immediately halted as the camera caught Edmeades lying flat on the floor of the auction room.

The official broadcasters then went to a lunch break and did not return to the auction afterwards.

Thankfully, Edmeades was OK. Now, Indian commentator Charu Sharma will resume the bidding process, set to resume at 3:30 pm IST.

“Update from ground zero! Hugh Edmeades the auctioneer is fine but a bit shaken! Was a physical fall no internal issues with him,” tweeted TV presenter Gautam Bhimani.

“Relief. Hugh Edmeades is fine,” wrote sports writer turned journalist, Ayaz Memon.

Edmeades is a British international fine art, classic car and charity auctioneer. In his 35-year career as a Christie’s auctioneer, he has conducted more than 2,500 auctions, selling over 310,000 lots for a sum in excess of £2.7 billion.
