IPL 2022: Date and timings of mega-auction revealed
The much-awaited official announcement regarding when and where the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega-auction will take place has now been made.
On Tuesday, the official handle of IPL confirmed that the players’ auction would occur on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. The bidding event will be broadcasted live on the Star Sports network from 11 am across the two days.
Notably, the title ownership of the cash-rich league has also changed. It has been moved from Vivo to Tata, and it will be called the Tata IPL from the 2022 season.

The fifteenth season of the lucrative league will bring more excitement for fans after the addition of two new teams to make IPL a 10-team affair. The new sides are Lucknow Super Giants and Ahmedabad Titans, who will be captained by KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, respectively.
When it comes to the old teams, Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have assigned captains as well in the form of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, MS Dhoni and Kane Williamson, respectively.
But, the likes of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) will be looking for potential leaders in the mega-auction.
Auction Process Rules:
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed all the franchises that the auction process will take place in the following manner:
1. Marquee Set
2. Capped Players
- Batsmen
- All-rounders
- Wicket-Keepers
- Pacers
- Spinners
3. Uncapped Players
- Batsmen
- All-rounders
- Wicket-Keepers
- Pacers
- Spinners
RTM Cards: This will be the first time in IPL auctions that no Right to Match (RTM) cards would be available for franchises.
Further, the maximum number of players’ list for each franchise is set at 25. Similarly, the minimum number of players allowed in a squad of any franchise is 18. When it comes to the overseas stars, the maximum number of foreign players allowed in a squad is 8.
