Twitter reactions: Usman Khawaja lights up Sydney Test with back-to-back centuries
Usman Khawaja‘s dream return to Test cricket continue as he smashed another ton in the ongoing fourth Ashes Test against England in Sydney. The left-handed batter made a brilliant 137 in the first innings and carried on the momentum on Day 4 with a scintillating hundred in the second innings.
Hundreds in each innings of Ashes Tests by Australians:
- Warren Bardsley (The Oval 1909)
- Arthur Morris (Adelaide 1947)
- Steve Waugh (Old Trafford 1997)
- Matthew Hayden (Gabba 2002)
- Steve Smith (Edgbaston 2019)
- Usman Khawaja (Sydney Cricket Ground 2022)
It was Khawaja’s tenth century in the longest format. He was well supported by all-rounder Cameron Green, who scored 74 from the other end. The pair went on to form a dominating partnership of 179 runs for the fifth wicket to shift the momentum in hosts’ favour.
Khawaja remained unbeaten on 101 before Aussie skipper Pat Cummins declared Australia’s second innings at 265/6, giving England a mighty target of 388 runs to win the Sydney Test.

The sound of the crowd chanting Uuuuuuuzie, Uuuuuuuzie was really sweet, which is an odd description, but it just was. Phenomenal performance. #Ashes

Usman Khawaja twin tons in his comeback Test match. This is no longer just about whether he plays the next Test. It's also about how he hasn't played any over the last 3 years #Ashes
