Ashleigh Gardner has won her first Belinda Clark Award, beating Beth Mooney by 54 votes to be awarded the top honour at the Cricket Australia Awards on Saturday.

Gardner, an Indigenous Australian through her mother’s heritage, was rewarded for her consistency with both bat and ball. She was among Australia’s top-three run scorers and top-five wicket-takers across formats last year. Across ten innings, Gardner scored 281 runs at an average of 35.1 that included four half-centuries while also picked nine wickets.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc won his maiden Allan Border Medal with 107 votes – just one more than Mitchell Marsh in second place.

Marsh, who was player-of-the-match in the 2021 T20 World Cup final, enjoyed his best season for Australia, taking 43 wickets at 24.4 across all formats.

The Australian Awards for international cricket are based on votes from players, umpires and the media on a 3-2-1 basis from each match.
