Twitter reaction: Abid Ali en-route Pakistan to a comprehensive win over Bangladesh in the first Test
Pakistan opening batters Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique smashed individual half-centuries to help visitors register an eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first Test in Chattogram.
Bangladesh scored 157/10 and gave the target of 203 runs in the second innings, which was easily gunned down by Pakistan. Ali scored 91 off 148 balls, and Shafique made 73 off 129 balls to En route Pakistan to victory.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. With the help of wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das century (114 off 233) and batter Mushfiqur Rahim solid 91 off 225, Bangladesh managed to put a solid total of 330/10 on board in the first innings.
Pakistan’s Pacer Hasan Ali ripped apart the batting line-up of the host and took a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
In response, Pakistan’s Ali and Shafique gave a flying start and made a partnership of 146 runs for the opening wicket. In the 58th over of the first innings, Bangladesh pacer Taijul Islam clinched two wickets. He sent back Shafique (52 off 166), who was looking in a brilliant form, and Azhar Ali on duck.
Taijul continued thrashing the batting line-up of the visitors and restricted them to 286/10. Taijul outstanding balling clinched him a seven-wicket haul for Bangladesh.
In the second innings, Bangladesh were bowled out for a total of 157 runs. Again, Das played a promising knock and scored a half-century for his team. Rest batting line surrendered in front of Pakistan’s pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi. He took a five-wicket haul with an economy of 2.10 for Pakistan.
Abid Ali was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his outstanding performance.
