SL vs WI: West Indies name Shai Hope as concussion substitute for injured Jeremy Solozano

West Indies pick Shai Hope as concussion substitute for injured Jeremy Solozano

West Indies have named senior batter Shai Hope as the concussion substitute for debutant Jeremy Solozano, who got injured on Day 1 of the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle International Stadium.

Solozano will play no further part in this Test as the substitute procedure was approved by match referee Ranjan Madugalle.

“Jeremy Solozano has suffered a concussion. He will return to the team hotel today and begin undergoing the appropriate protocol. Shai Hope will replace Solozano in the ongoing test match #MenInMaroon #SLvWI,” read the Cricket West Indies (CWI) statement.

Notably, the Trinidadian was injured on the opening day of the first Test after being hit flush in the helmet grille off a Dimuth Karunaratne pull shot while fielding at forward short leg.

After being hit badly, Solozano remained unmoved for a few moments and then needed to be stretchered off the field and rushed to a hospital.

“Injury Update. Debutant Jeremy Solozano was stretchered off the field after receiving a blow to his helmet while fielding. He has been taken to the hospital for scans. We are hoping for a speedy recovery. We’ll update you once we hear more. Shai Hope is the substitute fielder at this time,” CWI had tweeted that time.

By the evening on Day 1, an update regarding Solozano’s condition was released, which stated that the scans showed there was ‘no structural damage’, but he needed to be kept under observation.

“Jeremy Solozano’s scans show no structural damage. He will be kept at the hospital overnight for observation. We will continue to keep you posted on any further updates from our Medical team,” CWI had tweeted.
