‘We Indians are everywhere, we rule the world’: Hardik Pandya praises fan support after stellar show in IND vs IRE match at T20 World Cup 2024

Hardik Pandya on Indian fans support in T20 WC 2024

Despite facing significant criticism for his leadership and form during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya began his T20 World Cup 2024 journey with a bang, taking three crucial wickets against Ireland in India’s opening match of the global tournament.

Leading the charge with the ball

On a pitch that presented challenges with its inconsistent pace, Pandya, vice captain of Team India, emerged as their standout bowler, helping to skittle out Ireland for just 96 runs. His impressive bowling figures read 4-1-27-3.

Reflecting on his performance, Pandya expressed the unique pride and joy of donning the Indian jersey. He spoke about the deep gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to his team’s success in such prestigious tournaments, emphasizing that playing for national pride transcends personal achievements and embodies a collective sense of purpose and fulfillment

“Playing for the country is always special, and performing for pride is an incredible feeling. I’ve been fortunate to contribute in World Cups, and I’m grateful for that,” Pandya remarked during the mid-innings interview.

Unwavering global fan support

Notably, India’s cricket team consistently enjoys robust support no matter where they play. This was evident in New York, where a large contingent of Indian fans turned out to cheer for their team. Pandya acknowledged this support and highlighted the global presence of Indians.

“It’s amazing to see our fans everywhere. We Indians are everywhere, we rule the world. It’s great to have their support,” Pandya added.

Favorite wicket

When asked about his favorite wicket of the day, Pandya pointed to his dismissal of Ireland’s number three batter, Lorcan Tucker, in his first over. Tucker, attempting an off-side drive, was clean bowled as the ball sharply swung back in.

“I particularly enjoyed that first wicket. I don’t often hit the stumps as I typically bowl a shorter length. Today, I had to pitch it fuller. On a surface like this, discipline and targeting the right areas are key,” said Pandya.

India’s commanding win

Opting to bowl first, India restricted Ireland to a mere 96 runs in 16 overs. In reply, the Men in Blue chased down the target in just 12.2 overs, losing only 2 wickets. Captain Rohit Sharma led the charge with a remarkable half-century, scoring 52 off 37 balls before retiring hurt. Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten with a score of 36.
