Australia announces 15-man squad for ODI World Cup 2023; Nathan Ellis among 3 to miss the final cut
In the lead-up to the much-anticipated ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Australia have officially announced their final 15-member squad. The team, initially comprising 18 players in its preliminary form, has undergone the expected trimming process as the tournament’s commencement draws near. Notably, three players – Nathan Ellis, Tanveer Sangha and Aaron Hardie – have not made the final cut.
The decision to finalize the squad comes following thorough deliberations by the Australian selection committee, who aimed to strike a balance between experience and youthful exuberance. The competition for spots in the squad was fierce, with several talented players vying for their place on the world stage.
Hardie, who showcased his all-round abilities against South Africa; Ellis, known for his excellent death bowling and Sangha, a promising young spinner, have unfortunately missed out on the opportunity to represent Australia in the prestigious tournament.

Pat Cummins will continue to lead the Aussies
The squad that will don the yellow jersey in the 2023 ODI World Cup includes some of Australia’s finest cricketing talents, led by captain Pat Cummins.
Steve Smith, the former captain and batting maestro, will play a pivotal role in the team’s middle order.
Wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey, explosive opener Josh Inglis and the versatile Sean Abbott will add depth to the batting lineup. The spin department will be spearheaded by Adam Zampa, while Cameron Green, Travis Head and Mitch Marsh will provide valuable contributions with both bat and ball.
Australia’s power-packed lineup also features the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, known for their explosive hitting in the limited-overs format. The opening partnership will be entrusted to David Warner, who has been a consistent performer in ODI cricket, and the bowling attack will be led by the experienced Mitchell Starc, with Ashton Agar providing the spin option.
As part of their preparations for the ODI World Cup, Australia will engage in a high-stakes ODI series against India, set to commence in the coming weeks. The series against India will serve as an essential warm-up before Australia kicks off their World Cup campaign against the same opponent on October 8 in Chennai.
