WATCH: Rehan Ahmed cleans up Andy McBrine with a stunning googly – ENG vs IRE 2023, 2nd ODI
England showcased their prowess by securing a commanding 48-run victory over Ireland in the second One-Day International (ODI) at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Saturday. England’s victory owed much to the brilliant bowling performance of spinner Rehan Ahmed.
The leg-spinner weaved his magic to claim a spectacular 4-wicket haul. His scalps included the dismissals of Harry Tector (39), George Dockrell (43), Mark Adair (12), and the unforgettable wicket of Andy McBrine (4).
McBrine’s dismissal
The dismissal of McBrine took centre stage and left the cricket world in awe. In the 24th over, Rehan bowled a mesmerizing googly that landed perfectly on the off-stump. The delivery gripped the pitch and turned sharply away from the left-hander’s bat, completely fooling McBrine. The ball crashed into the stumps, leaving McBrine stunned and the crowd in raptures.

Ireland’s spirited effort falls short
In response, Ireland faced an uphill task and were eventually bowled out for 286 in 46.4 overs. Craig Young, an unexpected hero from the tailend, emerged as the top-scorer for Ireland with an unbeaten 40. With this emphatic victory, England continued to assert their dominance in the series, setting the stage for an exciting next encounter.
England skipper Zak Crawley lauded the team after a splendid performance. He praised both batters and bowlers for showing class and outclassing the opponents.
“Couple of standout performances with the bat and the ball. We were about par. We got a good score. We were brave in the bowling department. Really impressed with the way Scrimshaw bounced back. Tough day for him. The spinners bowled well. You have to give people a chance,” said Crawley after the game.
