Rohit Sharma

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma is not just a dynamic batter but also a cricket aficionado. Recently, he took some time off his busy schedule to engage in a rapid-fire interview with sports journalist Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel and made some intriguing choices.

In his interaction with Vimal, Rohit unveiled some of his favourite cricket preferences, including the name of the bowler who gave him the toughest challenge, the batter with the best pull shot and much more.

Rohit Sharma: A cricketing sensation

From being left out of India’s 2011 World Cup team to becoming the captain of India’s 2023 World Cup squad, Rohit’s story is nothing short of a fairy tale. His leadership skills and exceptional batting performances have earned him numerous accolades over the years, including India’s recent triumph in the Asia Cup. The Mumbai-born cricketer now aims to add another feather under his cap by leading the Indian side to their third 50-over World Cup title.

Rohit’s interesting cricketing choices

Now let’s delve into some of Rohit’s personal favourite cricket preferences, which he shared with Vimal during the rapid-fire round:

Best cover drive technique

Rohit’s choice for the best cover drive technique was his fellow teammate, Virat Kohli. Notably, Kohli is well-known for his elegant strokeplay, and his cover drives are indeed a sight to behold.

Best straight drive

Rohit named legendary Sachin Tendulkar as the master of the straight drive. It is worth mentioning that Tendulkar’s precision and timing while playing this shot was unmatchable, and it was his trademark shot during his playing days.

Rohit singled out Shubman Gill as the rising talent. The young cricketer has displayed immense promise and potential, and many see him as the future of Indian cricket.

Best pull shot

A batter with a brilliant best pull shot himself, Rohit picked Ricky Ponting as the best exponent of this shot. Ponting’s ability to dispatch short-pitched deliveries to the boundary was a sight to behold.

Best scoop

Rohit’s choice for the best scoop went to Suryakumar Yadav. The scoop shot is a daring, innovative and unconventional stroke, but Suryakumar has surely made it look like an effective approach to batting in recent times.

Toughest bowler

Perhaps the most intriguing revelation from Rohit’s interview was his choice for the toughest bowler he has faced. He straightaway named Dale Steyn as the toughest and most challenging. Rohit even praised Steyn for being a class player with sheer pace and the ability to consistently bowl in the right areas.

“If a bowler who has ever challenged me and I enjoyed playing against him then I’ll have say Dale Steyn. He is a class player, he got all the skills and I think this is the reason he doesn’t miss a bounce and can swing so fast and I think there are very less people who could swing 140+ and I think he was the one who could do it consistentl,” said Rohit.

India’s World Cup Campaign

As Rohit Sharma gears up to lead India in the ODI World Cup 2023, the anticipation among fans is palpable. India’s campaign will commence on October 8th against Australia in Chennai. Before entering the official tournament, India will participate in two warm-up games against England and the Netherlands.
