Rishabh Pant set to miss Australia Tests and IPL 2023

Rishabh Pant

India wicket keeper-batter Rishabh Pant is undergoing treatment at Dehradun’s Max Hospital after a severe car accident near Roorkee on last Friday (December 30, 2022).

As per the medical bulletin issued by the BCCI in coordination with Max Hospital doctors, Pant has suffered two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee along with injuries on his right wrist, ankle, toe and back.

Meanwhile, Dr. Qamar Azam – who looks after the sports injury department at AIIMS-Rishikesh – has claimed that Pant will at least take three to six months to recover from the ligament injury he sustained in his right knee.

“Pant will take at least three to six months to recover from the ligament injury. And if it’s severe, he may take more time. Further evaluation can be based on his detailed injury report,” said Azam.

Pant is likely to be shifting to Delhi for further treatment. Currently, he is in stable condition and the BCCI has full plans of moving him to London, where he can regain full fitness. The BCCI medical team is closely monitoring Pant’s health and have explained the same to his family.

“It is important that Rishabh gets sufficient time to rest, not just physically but mentally too. He is still in pain due to the injuries sustained in the accident. He has to speak to visitors, which drains his energy that should be preserved for faster recovery. People planning to visit him should avoid it for now and let him rest,” a medical team member taking care of Pant was quoted as saying to TOI.

Considering this assessment, Pant is all set to miss the home Test series against Australia, scheduled to kickstart on February 9 in Nagpur. Moreover, he will be unavailable for the entire season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as well.

Pant has been a vital cog in Delhi Capitals’ (DC) successful run in IPL in the last three years.
