Faf du Plessis reveals the toughest bowler to face in modern-day cricket

Former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis is currently involved in the inaugural SA20 tournament, which begun in Capetown on January 10. Du Plessis will be leading the Johannesburg Super Kings – the team owned by his former Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Ahead of the exciting 20-over showpiece event, Du Plessis was featured in ESPNcricinfo’s special segment named ’25 questions,’ where he took the hot seat and answered variety of questions.

The flamboyant right-handed batter was asked about the toughest bowler to face on the field at present. Du Plessis thought about it for a few seconds before naming England fast bowler Jofra Archer. Notably, Archer is all set for his comeback to international cricket after being picked in the ODI squad of the English team for their upcoming South Africa tour. He recently played the SA20 opening game between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals, where the Bridgetown-born pacer picked up three wickets.

The 38-year-old was then quizzed about the three players who would make it to his all-time XI. He went with his former teammate AB de Villiers, Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan, and Sri Lanka lagend Lasith Malinga.

The Pretoria-born, who captains the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL, also revealed that he would have considered taking up surfing as a career option if he was not a cricketer.

“I’m not great at it (surfing), but I would have liked to be a surfer. That is quite a nice lifestyle, you just go around the world, and you surf beautiful waves. I mean, it does not sound glamourous, but in my head, it would be something quite cool to do for a living,” said Du Plessis.

Du Plessis was asked about one opposition player he felt bad after sledging. Expectedly so, the Proteas cricketer picked the name of New Zealand’s white-ball captain Kane Williamson.
