IND vs NZ, Watch: Rohit Sharma asks security not to take an action against a fan who hugged him in 2nd ODI

A fan invades pitch to hug Indian captain Rohit Sharma

Team India came up with a clinical performance against New Zealand in the second ODI at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur as the hosts won the contest by eight wickets and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Firstly, the Indian bowlers dominated the proceedings and bundled out the Blackcaps for just 108 in 34.3 overs. Then India captain Rohit Sharma led the chase from the front, smashing a brilliant 51 as India completed the target in just 20.1 overs. Shubman Gill, who scored a double ton in the opening match, remained unbeaten on 40. It was India’s seventh consecutive ODI series win at home since 2019.

During India’s innings, an interesting event occurred when a boy rushed into the field and tried to hug the Indian skipper. The boy did manage to come close to Rohit but was then wrestled away aggressively by a security guard.

Thereafter, the Indian captain asked the guard to calm down as he was dealing with the young kid. Notably, the incident took place in the fourth delivery of the 10th over, with India’s score read 51 runs. Rohit was batting at 37* off 38 balls while Shubman had reached 14 off 20 deliveries.

Bowlers stepped up and delivered: Rohit Sharma after the win

Captain Rohit was mighty impressed with Team India’s bowling performance as he heaped praises on the pace battery for stepping up and delivering. Rohit reckoned his bowlers have some serious skills which was on display in the Raipur ODI.

“The last five games, bowlers have really stepped up. Whatever we have asked of them, they have stepped up and delivered. You don’t usually see this type of seam movement in India, you generally see it outside India. These guys have some serious skills, they work really hard and it’s great to see them being rewarded. We trained yesterday and the ball was nipping around under lights. We knew that if they had 250 or so, it might have been challenging for us but that was the point of opting to chase. We batted first last game, so the idea was to challenge ourselves. Not sure what I’ll do at Indore (in the final game). The confidence is high within the group and that’s great to see,” said Rohit in the post-match presentation.
