Australia beat India in the first T20I

Australia defeated India in the opening T20I of the ongoing three-match series at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Tuesday. Chasing the massive target of 209, the contest went down to the wire, where the visitors managed to register a memorable victory with 4 wickets in hand and four balls to spare.

Cameron Green came to open the innings and completely demolished the Indian bowling attack. The right-handed batter smashed 61 from just 30 balls, with the help of 12 boundaries, including four sixes.

After the dismissal of Green, India did come back with three more wickets in quick successions, but it wasn’t enough as Matthew Wade smashed an unbeaten 45 from 21 deliveries, including 6 fours and a couple of sixes, to get Australia home with four balls to spare.

Earlier, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul smashed scintillating half-centuries to help India post 208/6 on the board in their allotted 20 overs.

After being asked to bat first, the hosts lost skipper Rohit Sharma (11) and star batter Virat Kohli (2) in the powerplay. Before the tourists could add more pressure, Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav steadied the innings.
The duo formed a crucial partnership of 68 runs for the third wicket. Rahul scored 55 from 35 deliveries, hitting four fours and three sixes before he was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood. Soon, Green got rid of Suryakumar, who hit four sixes in his 25-ball 46.

India were four down at 126 after Surya’s wicket in the 14th over when Pandya came in the middle and absolute destroyed the Aussies. The star all-rounder played out just 30 balls and went on to smash unbeaten 71 runs with the help of seven fours and five sixes.
